Letter from the Director

Mr. Keith Leonard

Interim Superintendent, Escambia County Public Schools

Teaching children is a team effort, and this plan is our playbook. The goal? A future in which we are united for every student to succeed.

We’ve worked hard over the last year to clarify who we are and where we are headed as a district. We’ve used these insights to develop several “areas of strategic focus” that will help align our efforts to become a more cohesive and effective team.

In the months ahead, our staff will expand on these themes to create a detailed plan of action, which will be tied to a public dashboard that anyone can visit to get an up-to-date snapshot of our progress. Think of it as a scoreboard for our schools.

After reading this plan, I hope you will feel the same sense of optimism and urgency. We have a plan. Now, it’s time to pull together and stay focused as we build a brighter future for all our students.

Mr. Keith Leonard
Interim Superintendent
Escambia County Public Schools

About the Process

The comprehensive 5-year strategic plan will provide a road map for building the school system that will meet the education needs of all children.

Using the information gathered during this process, the Districts strategic team will identify critical issues and opportunities that will drive success over the next five years.

The plan’s areas of strategic focus are defined through the analysis of information gathered through a multi-pronged approach:

I. Dialogue Sessions

Group input from internal and external stakeholders

II. Contextual Research

Review of school system existing data from the superintendent search process and education trends research

III. Interviews

One-on-one discussions with community leaders

IV. Online Survey

Structured input from ECPS employees

The information gathered throughout this process will be analyzed by an external research team and will be used by the strategic planning committee to shape the strategic plan.
